17EN: So all the generations, from Abraham to David, are fourteen generations. And from David to the transmigration of Babylon, are fourteen generations: and from the transmigration of Babylon to Christ are fourteen generations.
17FR: Il y a donc en tout quatorze générations depuis Abraham jusqu’à David, quatorze générations depuis David jusqu’à la déportation à Babylone, quatorze générations depuis la déportation à Babylone jusqu’au Christ.
18EN: Now the generation of Christ was in this wise. When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child, of the Holy Ghost.
18FR: Or la naissance de Jésus-Christ arriva ainsi. Marie, sa mère, ayant été fiancée à Joseph, il se trouva, avant qu’ils eussent habité ensemble, qu’elle avait conçu par la vertu du Saint-Esprit.
19EN: Whereupon Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was minded to put her away privately.
19FR: Joseph, son mari, qui était juste et ne voulait pas la diffamer, se proposa de la répudier secrètement.
20EN: But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost.
20FR: Comme il était dans cette pensée, voici qu’un ange du Seigneur lui apparut en songe, et lui dit : « Joseph, fils de David, ne craint point de prendre chez toi Marie ton épouse, car ce qui est conçu en elle est du Saint-Esprit.
21EN: And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name JESUS. For he shall save his people from their sins.
21FR: Et elle enfantera un fils, et tu lui donneras pour nom Jésus, car il sauvera son peuple de ses péchés. »
22EN: Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying:
22FR: Or tout cela arriva afin que fût accompli ce qu’avait dit le Seigneur par le prophète :
23EN: Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
23FR: Voici que la Vierge sera enceinte et enfantera un fils ; et on lui donnera pour nom Emmanuel, ce qui se traduit : Dieu avec nous.
24EN: And Joseph rising up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took unto him his wife.
24FR: Réveillé de son sommeil, Joseph fit ce que l’ange du Seigneur lui avait commandé : il prit chez lui son épouse.
25EN: And he knew her not till she brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
25FR: Et il ne la connut point jusqu’à ce qu’elle enfantât son fils, et il lui donna pour nom Jésus.
