1EN: AND entering in, he walked through Jericho.
1FR: Etant entré dans Jéricho, il traversait (la ville).
2EN: And behold, there was a man named Zacheus, who was the chief of the publicans, and he was rich.
2FR: Et voici qu’un homme appelé du nom de Zachée, qui était un publicain-chef et qui était riche,
3EN: And he sought to see Jesus who he was, and he could not for the crowd, because he was low of stature.
3FR: cherchait à voir Jésus, qui il était ; et il ne le pouvait pas à cause de la foule, car il était petit de taille.
4EN: And running before, he climbed up into a sycamore tree, that he might see him; for he was to pass that way.
4FR: Courant en avant, il monta sur un sycomore pour le voir, car il devait passer par là.
5EN: And when Jesus was come to the place, looking up, he saw him, and said to him: Zacheus, make haste and come down; for this day I must abide in thy house.
5FR: Quand il arriva à cet endroit, Jésus leva les yeux et lui dit : « Zachée, hâte-toi de descendre, car aujourd’hui il faut que je demeure dans ta maison. »
6EN: And he made haste and came down; and received him with joy.
6FR: Il se hâta de descendre et le reçut avec joie.
7EN: And when all saw it, they murmured, saying, that he was gone to be a guest with a man that was a sinner.
7FR: Ce que voyant, ils murmuraient tous, disant : « Il est entré pour loger chez un pécheur. »
8EN: But Zacheus standing, said to the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have wronged any man of any thing, I restore him fourfold.
8FR: Or Zachée, s’étant arrêté, dit au Seigneur : « Voici, Seigneur, je donne aux pauvres la moitié de mes biens ; et si j’ai fait du tort à quelqu’un, je rends le quadruple. »
9EN: Jesus said to him: This day is salvation come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.
9FR: Jésus lui dit : « Le salut est arrivé aujourd’hui pour cette maison, parce que lui aussi est fils d’Abraham.
10EN: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
10FR: Car le Fils de l’homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu. »
11EN: As they were hearing these things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately be manifested.
11FR: Comme ils écoutaient cela, il ajouta une parabole, parce qu’il était proche de Jérusalem et qu’ils pensaient que le royaume de Dieu allait apparaître aussitôt.
12EN: He said therefore: A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
12FR: Il dit donc : « Un homme de haute naissance s’en alla dans un pays lointain pour recevoir la dignité royale et revenir ensuite.
13EN: And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten pounds, and said to them: Trade till I come.
13FR: Ayant appelé dix de ses serviteurs, il leur donna dix mines et leur dit : « Faites-les valoir jusqu’à ce que je revienne. »
14EN: But his citizens hated him: and they sent an embassage after him, saying: We will not have this man to reign over us.
14FR: Or ses concitoyens le haïssaient, et ils envoyèrent une députation derrière lui pour dire : « Nous ne voulons pas de celui-là pour notre roi. »
15EN: And it came to pass, that he returned, having received the kingdom: and he commanded his servants to be called, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
15FR: Quand il fut de retour, après avoir reçu la dignité royale, il se fit appeler ces serviteurs auxquels il avait donné l’argent, pour savoir quel profit chacun en avait tiré.
16EN: And the first came, saying: Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
16FR: Le premier se présenta et dit : « Seigneur, votre mine a rapporté dix mines. »
17EN: And he said to him: Well done, thou good servant, because thou hast been faithful in a little, thou shalt have power over ten cities.
17FR: Il lui dit : « Très bien, bon serviteur ; puisque tu as été fidèle en chose infime, tu auras le gouvernement de dix villes. »
18EN: And the second came, saying: Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.
18FR: Le second vint et dit : « Votre mine, Seigneur, a produit cinq mines. »
19EN: And he said to him: Be thou also over five cities.
19FR: A lui aussi il dit : « Et toi, deviens gouverneur de cinq villes. »
20EN: And another came, saying: Lord, behold here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin;
20FR: Et un autre vint et dit : « Seigneur, voici votre mine que j’ai tenue serrée dans un linge.
21EN: For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up what thou didst not lay down, and thou reapest that which thou didst not sow.
21FR: Car j’avais peur de vous, parce que vous êtes un homme dur : vous retirez ce que vous n’avez pas mis en dépôt, et vous moissonnez ce que vous n’avez pas semé. »
22EN: He saith to him: Out of thy own mouth I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow:
22FR: Il lui dit : « Je te juge sur ce qui vient de ta bouche, mauvais serviteur ! Tu savais que je suis un homme dur, retirant ce que je n’ai pas mis en dépôt et moissonnant ce que je n’ai pas semé ;
23EN: And why then didst thou not give my money into the bank, that at my coming, I might have exacted it with usury?
23FR: alors pourquoi n’as-tu pas mis mon argent à la banque ? Et à mon retour, je l’aurais recouvré avec un intérêt. »
24EN: And he said to them that stood by: Take the pound away from him, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.
24FR: Et il dit à ceux qui étaient là : « Otez-lui la mine et donnez-la à celui qui a dix mines. »
25EN: And they said to him: Lord, he hath ten pounds.
25FR: Ils lui dirent : « Seigneur, il a (déjà) dix mines ! »
26EN: But I say to you, that to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound: and from him that hath not, even that which he hath, shall be taken from him.
26FR: (Il répliqua) : « Je vous le dis : A celui qui a on donnera ; mais à celui qui n’a pas, on ôtera même ce qu’il a.
27EN: But as for those my enemies, who would not have me reign over them, bring them hither, and kill them before me.
27FR: Quant à mes ennemis, ceux qui n’ont pas voulu que je règne sur eux, amenez-les ici et égorgez-les devant moi. »
28EN: And having said these things, he went before, going up to Jerusalem.
28FR: Après avoir dit cela, il marchait en tête, montant à Jérusalem.
29EN: And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethania, unto the mount called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,
29FR: Lorsqu’il approcha de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, près du mont appelé des Oliviers, il envoya deux de ses disciples,
30EN: Saying: Go into the town which is over against you, at your entering into which you shall find the colt of an ass tied, on which no man ever hath sitten: loose him, and bring him hither.
30FR: en disant : « Allez au village qui est en face ; en y entrant, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, sur lequel aucun homme ne s’est jamais assis ; après l’avoir détaché, amenez-le.
31EN: And if any man shall ask you: Why do you loose him? you shall say thus unto him: Because the Lord hath need of his service.
31FR: Et si quelqu’un vous demande : « Pourquoi le détachez-vous ? » vous direz ainsi : « Le Seigneur en a besoin. » »
32EN: And they that were sent, went their way, and found the colt standing, as he had said unto them.
32FR: S’en étant allés, ceux qui étaient envoyés trouvèrent (les choses) comme il leur avait dit.
33EN: And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said to them: Why loose you the colt?
33FR: Comme ils détachaient l’ânon, ses maîtres leur dirent : « Pourquoi détachez-vous l’ânon ? »
34EN: But they said: Because the Lord hath need of him.
34FR: Ils dirent : « Le Seigneur en a besoin. »
35EN: And they brought him to Jesus. And casting their garments on the colt, they set Jesus thereon.
35FR: Et ils l’amenèrent à Jésus ; puis, ayant jeté leurs manteaux sur l’ânon, ils firent monter Jésus.
36EN: And as he went, they spread their clothes underneath in the way.
36FR: Tandis qu’il avançait, ils étendaient leurs manteaux sur le chemin.
37EN: And when he was now coming near the descent of mount Olivet, the whole multitude of his disciples began with joy to praise God with a loud voice, for all the mighty works they had seen,
37FR: Lorsqu’il était déjà proche de la descente du mont des Oliviers, toute la troupe des disciples transportés de joie se mirent à louer Dieu à haute voix pour tous les miracles qu’ils avaient vus,
38EN: Saying: Blessed be the king who cometh in the name of the Lord, peace in heaven, and glory on high!
38FR: disant : « Béni soit celui qui vient, le roi, au nom du Seigneur ! Paix dans le ciel, et gloire au plus haut des cieux ! »
39EN: And some of the Pharisees, from amongst the multitude, said to him: Master, rebuke thy disciples.
39FR: De la foule quelques Pharisiens lui dirent : « Maître, réprimandez vos disciples ! »
40EN: To whom he said: I say to you, that if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.
40FR: Il répondit : « Je vous les dis, si ceux-ci se taisent, les pierres crieront. »
41EN: And when he drew near, seeing the city, he wept over it, saying:
41FR: Et quand il fut proche, voyant la ville, il pleura sur elle,
42EN: If thou also hadst known, and that in this thy day, the things that are to thy peace; but now they are hidden from thy eyes.
42FR: disant : « Si, en ce jour, tu avais connu, toi aussi, ce qui était pour (ta) paix ! Mais maintenant cela demeure caché à tes yeux.
43EN: For the days shall come upon thee, and thy enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and straiten thee on every side,
43FR: Car vont venir sur toi des jours où tes ennemis établiront contre toi un retranchement, t’investiront et te serreront de toute part ;
44EN: And beat thee flat to the ground, and thy children who are in thee: and they shall not leave in thee a stone upon a stone: because thou hast not known the time of thy visitation.
44FR: ils t’abattront à terre, ainsi que tes enfants (qui sont) chez toi, et ils ne laisseront pas en toi pierre sur pierre, parce que tu n’as pas connu le moment où tu as été visitée. »
45EN: And entering into the temple, he began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought.
45FR: Etant entré dans le temple, il se mit à chasser ceux qui vendaient,
46EN: Saying to them: It is written: My house is the house of prayer. But you have made it a den of thieves.
46FR: leur disant : « Il est écrit : Et ma maison sera maison de prière, et vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs. »
47EN: And he was teaching daily in the temple. And the chief priests and the scribes and the rulers of the people sought to destroy him:
47FR: Et il enseignait chaque jour dans le temple. Les grands prêtres et les scribes cherchaient à le faire périr, ainsi que les chefs du peuple ;
48EN: And they found not what to do to him: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
48FR: mais ils ne trouvaient pas ce qu’ils pourraient faire, car le peuple entier était, en l’écoutant, suspendu à ses lèvres.
