1EN: For the rest, brethren, pray for us, that the word of God may run, and may be glorified, even as among you;
1FR: Au reste, frères, priez pour nous, afin que la parole du Seigneur poursuive sa course et soit en honneur, comme elle l’est chez vous,
2EN: And that we may be delivered from importunate and evil men; for all men have not faith.
2FR: afin que nous soyons délivrés des hommes fâcheux et pervers ; car la foi n’est pas le partage de tous.
3EN: But God is faithful, who will strengthen and keep you from evil.
3FR: Mais le Seigneur est fidèle, il vous affermira et vous préservera du mal.
4EN: And we have confidence concerning you in the Lord, that the things which we command, you both do, and will do.
4FR: Nous avons en vous cette confiance dans le Seigneur, que vous faites et que vous ferez ce que nous vous prescrivons.
5EN: And the Lord direct your hearts, in the charity of God, and the patience of Christ.
5FR: Que le Seigneur dirige vos cœurs dans l’amour de Dieu et la patience du Christ !
6EN: And we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother walking disorderly, and not according to the tradition which they have received of us.
6FR: Nous vous enjoignons, frères, au nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, de vous séparer de tout frère qui vit d’une façon déréglée, et non selon les instructions reçues de nous.
7EN: For yourselves know how you ought to imitate us: for we were not disorderly among you;
7FR: Vous savez vous-mêmes ce que vous devez faire pour nous imiter ; car nous n’avons rien eu de déréglé parmi vous.
8EN: Neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing, but in labour and in toil we worked night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you.
8FR: Nous n’avons mangé gratuitement le pain de personne ; mais nous avons été nuit et jour à l’œuvre, dans la fatigue et la peine, pour n’être à charge à aucun de vous.
9EN: Not as if we had not power: but that we might give ourselves a pattern unto you, to imitate us.
9FR: Ce n’est pas que nous n’en eussions le droit ; mais nous voulions vous donner en nous-mêmes un exemple à imiter.
10EN: For also when we were with you, this we declared to you: that, if any man will not work, neither let him eat.
10FR: Aussi bien, lorsque nous étions chez vous, nous vous déclarions que si quelqu’un ne veut pas travailler, il ne doit pas manger non plus.
11EN: For we have heard there are some among you who walk disorderly, working not at all, but curiously meddling.
11FR: Cependant nous apprenons qu’il y a parmi vous des gens déréglés, qui ne travaillent pas, mais qui ne s’occupent que de choses vaines.
12EN: Now we charge them that are such, and beseech them by the Lord Jesus Christ, that, working with silence, they would eat their own bread.
12FR: Nous les invitons et nous les exhortons par le Seigneur Jésus-Christ, de travailler paisiblement pour manger un pain qui leur appartienne.
13EN: But you, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
13FR: Pour vous, frères, ne vous lassez pas de faire le bien.
14EN: And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed:
14FR: Et si quelqu’un n’obéit pas à l’ordre donnée par cette lettre, notez-le, et, pour le confondre, ne le fréquentez plus.
15EN: Yet do not esteem him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
15FR: Ne le considérez pourtant pas comme un ennemi, mais avertissez-le comme un frère.
16EN: Now the Lord of peace himself give you everlasting peace in every place. The Lord be with you all.
16FR: Que le Seigneur de la paix vous donne lui-même la paix en tout temps, de toute manière ! Que le Seigneur soit avec tous !
17EN: The salutation of Paul with my own hand; which is the sign in every epistle. So I write.
17FR: La salutation est de ma propre main, à moi Paul ; c’est là ma signature dans toutes les lettres : c’est ainsi que j’écris.
18EN: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
18FR: Que la grâce de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ soit avec vous tous !
