1EN: But of the times and moments, brethren, you need not, that we should write to you;
1FR: Quant aux temps et aux moments il n’est pas besoin, frères, de vous en écrire.
2EN: For yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Lord shall so come, as a thief in the night.
2FR: Car vous savez très bien vous-mêmes que le jour du Seigneur vient ainsi qu’un voleur pendant la nuit.
3EN: For when they shall say, peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.
3FR: Quand les hommes diront : " Paix et sûreté ! " c’est alors qu’une ruine soudaine fondra sur eux comme la douleur sur la femme qui doit enfanter, et ils n’y échapperont point.
4EN: But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
4FR: Mais vous, frères, vous n’êtes pas dans les ténèbres, pour que ce jour vous surprenne comme un voleur.
5EN: For all you are the children of light, and children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
5FR: Oui, vous êtes tous enfants de lumière et enfants du jour ; nous ne sommes pas de la nuit, ni des ténèbres.
6EN: Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do; but let us watch, and be sober.
6FR: Ne dormons donc point comme le reste des hommes ; mais veillons et soyons sobres.
7EN: For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night.
7FR: Car ceux qui dorment, dorment la nuit, et ceux qui s’enivrent, s’enivrent la nuit.
8EN: But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
8FR: Pour nous qui sommes du jour, soyons sobres, prenant pour cuirasse la foi et la charité, et pour casque l’espérance du salut.
9EN: For God hath not appointed us unto wrath, but unto the purchasing of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
9FR: Dieu en effet ne nous a pas destinés à la colère, mais à l’acquisition du salut par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ,
10EN: Who died for us; that, whether we watch or sleep, we may live together with him.
10FR: qui est mort pour nous, afin que, soit que nous veillions, soit que nous dormions, nous vivions avec lui.
11EN: For which cause comfort one another; and edify one another, as you also do.
11FR: C’est pourquoi consolez-vous mutuellement et édifiez-vous les uns les autres, comme déjà vous le faites.
12EN: And we beseech you, brethren, to know them who labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you:
12FR: Nous vous prions aussi, frères, d’avoir de la considération pour ceux qui travaillent parmi vous, qui vous gouvernent dans le Seigneur et qui vous donnent des avis.
13EN: That you esteem them more abundantly in charity, for their work's sake. Have peace with them.
13FR: Ayez pour eux une charité plus abondante, à cause de leur œuvre. Vivez en paix entre vous.
14EN: And we beseech you, brethren, rebuke the unquiet, comfort the feeble minded, support the weak, be patient towards all men.
14FR: Nous vous en prions, frères, reprenez ceux qui troublent l’ordre, consolez les pusillanimes, soutenez les faibles, usez de patience envers tous.
15EN: See that none render evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good towards each other, and towards all men.
15FR: Prenez garde à ce que nul ne rende à un autre le mal pour le mal ; mais toujours cherchez ce qui est bien, les uns pour les autres et pour tous.
16EN: Always rejoice.
16FR: Soyez toujours joyeux.
17EN: Pray without ceasing.
17FR: Priez sans cesse.
18EN: In all things give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you all.
18FR: En toutes choses rendez grâces : car c’est la volonté de Dieu dans le Christ Jésus à l’égard de vous tous.
19EN: Extinguish not the spirit.
19FR: N’éteignez pas l’Esprit.
20EN: Despise not prophecies.
20FR: Ne méprisez pas les prophéties ;
21EN: But prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
21FR: mais éprouvez tout, et retenez ce qui est bon ;
22EN: From all appearance of evil refrain yourselves.
22FR: abstenez-vous de toute apparence de mal.
23EN: And may the God of peace himself sanctify you in all things; that your whole spirit, and soul, and body, may be preserved blameless in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
23FR: Que le Dieu de paix lui-même vous sanctifie tout entiers, et que tout ce qui est en vous, l’esprit, l’âme et le corps, se conserve sans reproche jusqu’au jour de l’avènement de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ !
24EN: He is faithful who hath called you, who also will do it.
24FR: Celui qui vous appelle est fidèle, et c’est lui qui fera encore cela.
25EN: Brethren, pray for us.
25FR: Frères, priez pour nous.
26EN: Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.
26FR: Saluez tous les frères par un saint baiser.
27EN: I charge you by the Lord, that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren.
27FR: Je vous en conjure par le Seigneur, que cette lettre soit lue à tous les [saints] frères. Que la grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ soit avec vous !
28EN: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
