1EN: Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. And every one that loveth him who begot, loveth him also who is born of him.
1FR: Quiconque croit que Jésus est le Christ, est né de Dieu ; et quiconque aime celui qui l’a engendré, aime aussi celui qui est né de lui.
2EN: In this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God, and keep his commandments.
2FR: A cette marque nous connaissons que nous aimons les enfants de Dieu, si nous aimons Dieu, et si nous observons ses commandements.
3EN: For this is the charity of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not heavy.
3FR: Car c’est aimer Dieu que de garder ses commandements. Et ses commandements ne sont pas pénibles,
4EN: For whatsoever is born of God, overcometh the world: and this is the victory which overcometh the world, our faith.
4FR: parce que tout ce qui est né de Dieu remporte la victoire sur le monde ; et la victoire qui a vaincu le monde, c’est notre foi.
5EN: Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
5FR: Qui est celui qui est vainqueur du monde, sinon celui qui croit que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu ?
6EN: This is he that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ: not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit which testifieth, that Christ is the truth.
6FR: C’est ce même Jésus-Christ qui est venu par l’eau et par le sang, non avec l’eau seulement, mais avec l’eau et avec le sang. Et c’est l’Esprit qui rend témoignage, par ce que l’Esprit est la vérité.
7EN: And there are three who give testimony in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. And these three are one.
7FR: Car il y en a trois qui rendent témoignage [dans le ciel : le Père, le Verbe et l’Esprit ; et ces trois sont un.
8EN: And there are three that give testimony on earth: the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three are one.
8FR: Et il y en a trois qui rendent témoignage sur la terre] : l’Esprit, l’eau et le sang ; et ces trois sont d’accord.
9EN: If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony of God, which is greater, because he hath testified of his Son.
9FR: Si nous recevons le témoignage des hommes, le témoignage de Dieu est plus grand ; et c’est bien là le témoignage de Dieu, qui a rendu témoignage à son Fils.
10EN: He that believeth in the Son of God, hath the testimony of God in himself. He that believeth not the Son, maketh him a liar: because he believeth not in the testimony which God hath testified of his Son.
10FR: Celui qui croit au Fils de Dieu a ce témoignage (de Dieu) en lui-même ; celui qui ne croit pas Dieu, le fait menteur, puisqu’il n’a pas cru au témoignage que Dieu a rendu à son Fils.
11EN: And this is the testimony, that God hath given to us eternal life. And this life is in his Son.
11FR: Et voici ce témoignage, c’est que, Dieu nous a donne la vie éternelle, et que cette vie est dans son Fils.
12EN: He that hath the Son, hath life. He that hath not the Son, hath not life.
12FR: Celui qui a le Fils a la vie ; celui qui n’a pas le Fils de Dieu n’a pas la vie.
13EN: These things I write to you, that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God.
13FR: Je vous ai écrit ces choses, afin que vous sachiez que vous avez la vie éternelle, vous qui croyez au nom du Fils de Dieu.
14EN: And this is the confidence which we have towards him: That, whatsoever we shall ask according to his will, he heareth us.
14FR: Et nous avons auprès de Dieu cette pleine confiance, que, si nous demandons quelque chose selon sa volonté, il nous écoute.
15EN: And we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask: we know that we have the petitions which we request of him.
15FR: Et si nous savons qu’il nous écoute, quelque chose que nous lui demandions, nous savons que nous obtenons ce que nous avons demandé.
16EN: He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask, and life shall be given to him, who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death: for that I say not that any man ask.
16FR: Si quelqu’un voit son frère commettre un péché qui ne va pas à la mort, qu’il prie, et Dieu donnera la vie à ce frère, [à tous ceux dont ce péché ne va pas à la mort]. Il y a tel péché qui va à la mort ; ce n’est point pour ce péché-là que je dis de prier.
17EN: All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death.
17FR: Toute iniquité est un péché, et il y a tel péché qui ne va pas à la mort.
18EN: We know that whosoever is born of God, sinneth not: but the generation of God preserveth him, and the wicked one toucheth him not.
18FR: Nous savons que quiconque est né de Dieu ne pèche point ; mais celui qui est né de Dieu se garde lui-même, et le malin ne le touche pas.
19EN: We know that we are of God, and the whole world is seated in wickedness.
19FR: Nous savons que nous sommes de Dieu et que le monde entier est plongé dans le mal.
20EN: And we know that the Son of God is come: and he hath given us understanding that we may know the true God, and may be in his true Son. This is the true God and life eternal.
20FR: Mais nous savons que le Fils de Dieu est venu, et qu’il nous a donné l’intelligence pour connaître le vrai Dieu, et nous sommes en ce vrai Dieu, étant en son Fils Jésus-Christ. C’est lui qui est le Dieu véritable et la vie éternelle.
21EN: Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
21FR: Mes petits-enfants, gardez-vous des idoles.
